
Senior Designer
Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.
GMC has an opening for Engineering Designer to support on-going projects in Greenville, SC office. This position will be involved in all stages of design and construction and will assist project managers in producing documents and managing the projects. Applicant should be well organized and able to work within a design system, ready to grow quickly into project management, and a good communicator willing and able to network with outside consultants to assist in driving the project.

Technical
- Applies extensive diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, and proven ability to apply them.
- Independently evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Builds client relationships and assist with specific client development using technical expertise.
- Possesses knowledge of entire project process – development/scoping, design, construction.
- High proficiency in the Autodesk design suite inclusive of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit and Navisworks
- Produce plans and drawings as assigned.
- Read and produce legal descriptions.
- Able to develop project templates as needed
- Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of surveying.
- Prepares scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments.
- Exercises broad knowledge of the design process and understands company technical standards.
- Integrates multiple components of design (i.e., structural, civil, electrical, etc.).
- Possesses knowledge of codes and design in construction practices.
- Ability to apply technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision.
- Visit construction sites to observe progress and to determine general conformance to engineering plans and specifications.
- Responsible for accuracy of technical aspects of projects.
- Solves complex and novel assignments requiring new or improved techniques or procedures.
- QA/QC
- Executes cross discipline checks and coordination.
- Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Recognizes and reports risk management issues to Vice President and Senior Project Manager as appropriate.

Qualifications
- Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Education
- Technical School or Community College
- AutoCAD and/or Revit proficiency required
Work Environment
- Field (10%) and Office (90%)
- This position requires work to be performed in an office environment and in the field. Work done in the field may consist of exposure to various types of weather and temperatures. Engineers may also be exposed to pollutants, chemicals, insects, and possibly water-borne pathogens, Employees are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and gear when performing fieldwork.
Travel
- Engineers will be expected to travel to various work sites to perform fieldwork. Company cars and/or rental vehicles shall be utilized to travel between work sites.
