Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC is actively seeking a full-time Architect in our Nashville, TN office who is experienced in justice, correctional, commercial, educational, and government work. Applicants must have a professional degree, Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture, from an accredited university and a minimum of 10 years of experience. The primary role of the architecture project architect is to manage assigned architectural projects through preliminary design, construction document production, bidding and construction to ensure that the client’s goals are satisfied on time and within budget while obtaining project internal profitability goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects with variable deadlines; ensuring value to clients by balancing scope, time, cost, and quality with the business’s needs and priorities.
  • Assist the business’s leadership team in the preparation of project proposal and contracts
  • Consult with clients on design objectives and design decisions throughout the project process
  • Layout project’s conceptual design that meets an owner’s functional objectives and code requirements.
  • Understand research and apply federal, state and local building codes, planning and zoning regulations and standard design practices to projects; assess code requirements to ensure project meets health and safety requirements.
  • Produce conceptual project construction cost estimates.
  • Research and document new products and cutting-edge technologies, as well as present value-added recommendations to clients and internal staff with the understanding of cost and quality.
  • Keep files and project documentation in order per office standards.
  • Develop project schedules and maintain and update throughout the project duration.  Are responsible for meeting the project schedule and deadlines.
  • Must identify and communicate with management the manpower needs to meet the requirements of the client’s schedule on a project.  Must develop manpower needs assessment at the beginning of their project and communicate weekly any required revisions to their projected needs to ensure the project deadlines can be maintained.
  • Must manage projects so that business’s profitability goals and objectives meet the goals set for the project.
  • Must ensure that quality assurance check sets are scheduled and preformed throughout the project process. 
  • Oversee all elements of the design and construction process of assigned projects.
  • Develop, organize construction documents and specifications for project including the development of construction details specific to a project.
  • Interact and coordinate with consulting engineers and other team members on a project to ensure design objectives and schedules are being met
  • Coordinate with consultants regarding design and integration of systems.
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings with internal team members and consulting engineers throughout a project’s process.  Coordination meetings must be defined in the project schedule.
  • Monitor the progress and ascertain that all phases of construction process are in compliance with building plans and project deadlines.
  • Communicate daily with project team members/consultants to ensure project goals and schedules are met.
  • Keep team members informed by routinely sending copies of correspondence and project documentation.
  • Ensure that project closeout documentation is in order (to include obtaining a fully executed Substantial Completion document and record set of construction documents upon completion of a project)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Architect
  • 2-10 years of similar experience 
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Revit
  • Must be results oriented
  • Be able to manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines
  • Must have an understanding of the requirements and function of the commercial project types (Commercial, judicial, higher education, office experience, government experience preferred)
  • Must be able to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Must be a team player and able to establish good working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, team members, and other employees.
  • Must be able to perform work related travel and hold a valid driver’s license.
